If commercial, contact the Planning Department at 919-552-1429. If residential irrigation, fill out a Residential Trade Permit and come to Town Hall to pay for the permit or call 919-552-1433. After the irrigation permit is paid, you must go to the Water Department to fill out paperwork for an additional meter.

Any project where the cost of construction exceeds $30,000 dollars. Exception: A homeowner who lives in the home and plans to live there for 12 months may do his own work without a license. A homeowner exemption affidavit is required. A permit and inspections are still required to determine that the work is in compliance with state codes.
A residential accessory structure that does not exceed 12 feet in any dimension can be constructed without having to meet the residential building code requirements. However, a permit is still required to approve the location for meeting the set backs of the zoning in which the structure is located.

Permits for fences are not required however, there are certain rules for fences that must be followed. Please contact the Town of Fuquay-Varina Planning Dept. at 919-552-1429 to inquire about rules on fences.
A complete permit submittal is as follows, a permit application, subcontractor form, 2 copies of a plot plan to scale and 2 copies of the building plans. Note: If you are on a well and septic system, you will need approval from Wake County Environmental Health Dept. before the permit can be submitted.
