Freedom Balloon Festival
On Friday, January 4, 2019, the Town of Fuquay-Varina and Project Uplift USA mutually agreed that Fuquay-Varina will no longer host the Freedom Balloon Festival.
While the Town is sad to see the Festival come to an end, it was determined by both parties that Fleming Loop Park would not be suitable to host the 2019 festival, as construction will have likely just wrapped up and the new field turf not yet established. Town and festival officials concluded that the site will simply not be ready for 20,000(+) patrons per day over the Memorial Day weekend. Although the Town was prepared to fulfill its commitment under the Host City Agreement for the years 2020 and 2021, we agreed with Project Uplift USA that it would be best that they pursue other options moving forward.
The Freedom Balloon Festival was a special event that honored active military service men and women, veterans, families, and those that gave the ultimate sacrifice while defending the freedom and values of the United States of America. The Town of Fuquay-Varina is grateful to have been able to host the festival for 3 years and be a part of this wonderful tribute. It has been a joy for the community and the festival has certainly highlighted the many great attributes of Fuquay-Varina around the state and country.
Mayor John W. Byrne and the Fuquay-Varina Town Board want to thank Project Uplift USA for their commitment to honoring and recognizing Gold Star families and all service personnel, present and past, for the gift and privilege of freedom. They also wish to express appreciation for the event being held in Fuquay-Varina.
The Town wishes Project Uplift USA, the Freedom Balloon Festival, and the numerous volunteers and supporters the absolute best in the future!
