Cold Case Investigations
Unsolved Cases
A cold case is a homicide, suspicious death or missing person case that remains unsolved after being reported to law enforcement and has no viable and unexplored investigative leads. Cases that have not been solved within one year of the date of the offense without viable leads are considered cold.
Collaborative Strategies
The Fuquay-Varina Police Department investigates unsolved suspicious deaths and homicides through collaborative strategies that embrace new technologies, in depth investigations and community policing partnerships. We are committed to solving each suspicious death and homicide and, our personnel will continue to search for new leads to bring closure for the victims and their families.

Currently, the Fuquay-Varina Police Department has one cold case death investigation. We recognize the importance of solving cold cases and bringing those accountable for those heinous crimes to justice.
As a result, the Fuquay-Varina Police Department encourages all persons that may have information about this unsolved homicide to contact our department as soon as possible. We need your help. Someone knows something.

Cold Case Death Investigation
Case Number 2011-00553
Victim: Sandra Denise Thomas, nickname "Plunk"
Date of Birth: June 25, 1969
Date of Incident: March 29, 2011
On March 29, 2011 at approximately 10:30 a.m., the Fuquay-Varina Police Department responded to the 200 block of Lawrence Street due to a report of a deceased female, later identified as Sandra Denise Thomas.
Sandra was located in a ditch along the side of Lawrence Street near Holland Glen Drive. Sandra had numerous injuries suggesting that a motor vehicle may have been involved in her death. Sandra was last seen alive at 2 a.m. on March 29, 2011 walking alone in the 100 block of N West Street toward W Jones Street.
