Fire Explorers Program

Practical Experience

The Fuquay-Varina Fire Explorer program is open to young men and women ages 14 - 18 who want to learn about the fire service through hands on, practical experience and classroom training. Meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Wednesday night of each month at one of three Fuquay-Varina fire stations.

With the guidance of program advisers, Explorers learn all aspects of the Fire Department, from training and day-to-day operations to fire tactics to emergency medical care. In addition to learning, Explorers have fun and meet new people with similar career interests.

Training exercises include familiarizing Explorers with different fire apparatus, fire hydrant operations, sprinkler systems, using SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus), and much more.
