Junior Citizen's Police Academy

The FVPD started its first Junior Citizen's Police Academy for ages 10-14 in August 2021. The week-long academy "camp" is held at the Fuquay-Varina Police Department from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Participants must complete (in advance) an application and class participants are limited to the first 15 completed applications received. Participants or "cadets" experience a behind-the-scenes look at the FVPD, ranging from hands-on activities, classroom instruction, and demonstrations. Topics and activities are centered around traffic safety, bicycle safety, patrol techniques, demonstration, investigations, mock crime scenes, team building, leadership building, and learning about career opportunities with the FVPD. This is a free camp for participants that live in the Town of Fuquay-Varina corporate limits. Each youth participating receives a t-shirt and certificate of completion of the program. There is also an opportunity to compete in specific events to obtain further recognition as part of this program. Lunch and snacks provided. Participants are required to participate for the entire week of the camp. Seats will fill up quickly so contact Community Outreach Corporal Look for an application - dlook@fuquay-varina.org when there is an announced camp.
Note: For youth ages 14-19, we have a continuous FVPD Public Safety Cadet Program held throughout the year.
