The Town of Fuquay-Varina has cancelled the annual Independence Day celebration scheduled for July 3rd due to the continuing COVID-19 crisis. In recent years, the event has drawn more than 15,000 people to South Park to watch fireworks and enjoy a free concert. Although the “Safer at Home” guidelines announced this past week may be eased by Independence Day, we expect restrictions on large events and crowds may continue through the summer. This uncertainty has made it necessary to cancel the July 3rd event. Town staff is currently looking at alternative, creative and safe ways to celebrate Independence Day. When plans are available, we will share them with you on social media and our website.

Please know that this is disappointing for all of us. Fuquay-Varina’s Independence Day Celebration has a strong and rich tradition dating back to the 1890’s. It is one of the holidays notably celebrated at the Fuquay Mineral Spring Park in the early days of our town’s history. Cancelling the celebration isn’t a decision we came to easily. We appreciate your support as we continue to keep our staff and residents safe during this challenging time.
