FUQUAY-VARINA WATER CONSERVATION NOTICE

In January of 2008, the Town Board of Commissioners passed a Water Conservation Ordinance that affects every citizen of the Town. Below is a short excerpt that addresses the year round water conservation measures that take effect on May 1, 2008. The full text of the ordinance can be found by clicking the link below.

Annual Water Conservation Measures

Every Town customer shall comply with the following schedule for the automated irrigation (sprinklers and irrigation systems) of outdoor landscaping (such as grass, shrubbery, trees, flowers and vegetable gardens) annually (May 1 through October 31):

1) For customers whose address numbers end in an even digit, such watering shall be restricted to Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

2) For customers whose address numbers end in an odd digit, such watering shall be restricted to Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

3) Landscapers or property owners engaged in establishing new grass seed, sod or landscaping may purchase one 45-day temporary permit per site to establish the new vegetation.

4) These annual watering restrictions do not apply to drip irrigation systems.

Temporary Water Conservation Measures

The Town Board of Commissioners may declare several stages of temporary water conservation events. They are:

1) Stage 1 – Water Shortage Warning

a) No washing down of outside areas unless by a business licensed to do so.

b) Only wash vehicles at home on Saturday and Sunday.

c) New and existing pools cannot be completely filled.

2) Stage 2 – Water Shortage Emergency

a) Odd numbered addresses may irrigate lawns and landscapes only between midnight and 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

b) Even numbered addresses may irrigate lawns and landscapes only between midnight and 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

c) No washing of any vehicles except at commercial car wash facilities that re-cycle water.

d) No 45-day permits for new vegetation will be issued.

e) No water, at all, for swimming pools.

3) Stage 3 – Water Shortage Crisis

a) No watering of yards by automatic irrigation systems.

b) No washing of any vehicles, even at commercial establishments.

c) All 45–day permits for new vegetation are revoked.

Enforcement

1st violation – warning

2nd violation - $50.00 fine

3rd violation – suspension of water service
