NOTICE OF CHANGES FOR

RECYCLING AND GARBAGE COLLECTION PROGRAM

The Town of Fuquay-Varina currently contracts with Waste Industries to provide its residential citizens with weekly recycling pickup. The Board of Commissioners has voted to start picking up recycling with Town staff effective July 1, 2008. In order to accomplish this change in service with existing Town staff, it will be necessary to change how recycling is picked up. This will effect how residential garbage is picked up.

Currently, recycling is picked up weekly in an 18 gallon container. Under the new program each residential customer that wants to participate in recycling will be provided a 35 gallon roll out container. By providing a larger container, recycling will be picked up every two weeks instead of weekly. Additionally, all recycling containers will be picked up on Wednesday. The area south and east of US 401 will be the Green Zone. The area north and west of US 401 will be the Gold Zone. We will start our pickup with the Green Zone of Town on Wednesday, July 2, 2008. The first pickup of the Gold Zone will be Wednesday, July 9, 2008. In order to request a container, please call 552-1400 or submit an email request to recycle@fuquay-varina.org. If you request your cart prior to June 20, 2008, we will delivery your new rollout cart prior to July 1, 2008. After July 1, 2008, we will deliver carts as we receive requests. Please use your current container until Wednesday July 2nd or July 9th. Unless we hear differently from Waste Industries, you may keep your current container.

For more information on the routes changes, please call 552-1400. You will also receive a reminder on your trash can the week prior to the change.

* The majority of Town streets in the central part of Town will be picked up on Friday. If you live on a Town street that is outside of the central core and next to a major subdivision you will probably be picked up on the same day as the major subdivision.
