FUQUAY-VARINA INSPECTIONS
FIRE PROTECTION PLANS
Note: The information is required for each respective discipline; however, in most cases it need not be within the discipline drawings nor repeated within the discipline drawings if the information exists within the drawing set.
_____ A. Complete a sprinkler design data sheet and include it on the first plan of the sprinkler drawings.
_____ B. Show floor plans for each floor with sprinkler piping layout, pipe sizes, pipe hanger details, piping materials, hose stations, fire extinguishers, doors, walls, and room identities.
_____ C. Show ceiling plans with sprinkler head(s) layout, walls, soffits, openings, doors, dimensions, and room identities.
_____ D. Verify system design by providing hydraulic calculations along with the following:
_____ Recent water flow test.
_____ 10 percent safety margin.
_____ Type of backflow preventer.
_____ Fire pump summary.
_____ E. Note the type of Sprinkler System used [13, 13R, ESFR, 231, or OTHER__________]
_____ F. For Residential Occupancy (i.e. Apartments, Condos) show sprinkler head location at breezeway if applicable.
_____ G. Indicate the UL/FM# hourly rating of all rated members and assemblies i.e. columns, beams, floor and ceiling, and ceiling and roof fire-rated design assemblies. Show all fire-rated walls (both existing and new) with their ratings if not shown elsewhere. Drawings not showing fire-rated walls shown will be rejected.
_____ H. All penetrations of fire-rated construction to be per manufacturer detail. The details shall meet or exceed rating of construction being penetrated and shall be provided to the inspector in the field. The penetration details must be exactly as tested by an approved testing laboratory or agency and must include their system numbers.
_____ I. Provide a Fire Alarm riser showing connection to a UL approved central station. Show tamper switches on all 0S&Y valves and Post Indicator Valves (PIV). The plans must state that the fire alarm system is to be an addressable system.
_____ J. Commodity class and height of any storage.
_____ K. MSDS Sheets on any Hazardous Materials, to be located in Knox box where applicable.
_____ L. Where special Temperature rated or high temperature sprinklers are required, show sprinkler type(s) per area, office size, cut sheets with K-factor, water requirements, spray pattern, coverage, and other pertinent data.
SYSTEM CALCULATIONS
Note: The information is required for each respective discipline; however, in most cases it need not be within the discipline drawings nor repeated within the discipline drawings if the information exists within the drawing set.
Hydraulically calculated and pipe schedule fire systems should be designed with a 10 percent safety margin for all new buildings and additions to existing buildings. Calculations for hydraulic systems should include:
_____ A. Flow and pressure at each flowing sprinkler head and hose stations.
_____ B. Flow diagram for a grid system.

UTILITIES SITE PLAN (FIRE PROTECTION)
Note: The information is required for each respective discipline; however, in most cases it need not be within the discipline drawings nor repeated within the discipline drawings if the information exists within the drawing set.
_____ A. A site plan must be provided with fire department connection and all hydrants shown.
_____ B. Show the size of city main.
_____ C. Identify test hydrants and give flow and pressure data for each.
_____ D. Show the circulating or dead-end main and the distance to circulating main if it is a dead-end.
_____ E. Indicate the Valve type and size. Valve types include:
_____ Control Valves
_____ Fire Department connection check valve
_____ F. Show size, type, and depth of underground piping (from city main to inside of building). Provide:
_____ Underground piping connection detail.
_____ Detail of stub-out for hydrant.
_____ Blocking.
_____ Rodding and rod size.
_____ Clearance (12inches or 18 inches minimum from wall)
_____ G. Show backflow prevention devices on fire lines and if installed above ground how heated to 40 deg. F.
_____ H. Indicate the distance and location of all fire hydrants. Allowed distances are:
_____ 100 feet maximum from Fire Department connection.
_____ 300 feet maximum between hydrants on commercial and industrial.
_____ 500 feet maximum between hydrants on residential.
_____ I. Minimum size of fire lines:
_____ Dead-end lines: 12 inches minimum
_____ Looped lines: 8 inches minimum
_____ J. All hydrants will be Mueller with 4 inch steamer connection and two (2) 2 inch hose connections.
_____ K. Bollard locations to be denoted on plans for protection of hydrants.
_____ L. Indicate any other water supply (i.e. wells, tanks, etc.) where applicable.
