The Fuquay-Varina Fire Department is very involved with fire safety and prevention in our community. We work closely with elementary and middle schools in our district to help educate children about the importance of fire safety. We also work with churches, civic organizations and the general public by conducting Fire Prevention Programs, Life Safety Programs, and Home Hazard/Smoke Alarm Checklists. Feel free to contact us at (919) 552-0422 if you need assistance with a fire and life safety program. We can also be reached by E-mail at fire@fuquay-varina.org.
Fire Safety and Prevention Programs
One tool we use is Pumper and Patches. Pumper and Patches is a remote controlled fire truck with a dalmation driving it. It has working red lights, it talks and even sprays water. Pumper and Patches teaches children to make fire safety part of their daily routine. We have found that this is very good way to interact with younger children.
Fire Department Member Trading Cards
Another tool that has become very popular with the children is department trading cards. Each card has a picture of the department member, a short bio, and a fire safety message. The children have to demonstrate a fire safety skill to receive a card. To offset the cost of the cards' production, businesses in the community sponsor a firefighter and get their business information on the card.

This program won The North Carolina Fire and Safety Education Council 2001 Award of Excellence for the central region.
