NE Judd Parkway Extension
N.E. Judd Parkway Extension, a 1.5 mile addition to N.E. Judd Parkway from the Wal-Mart Shopping Center (close to US 401) to Food Lion (located at Hwy 55), opened to traffic on Monday, December 27, 2010. The project, which broke ground in August 2009, was funded by an $8 million bond referendum approved by taxpayers in 2007. The Town of Fuquay-Varina budgeted $4.5 million for the N.E. Judd Parkway Extension, and it has been completed within budget.
The N.E. Judd Parkway Extension is expected to alleviate traffic congestion in the historic Varina Commercial District along Broad Street and other downtown areas. The next scheduled phase of construction of the Judd Parkway (also funded through the 2007 bond referendum) is the Southwest section which is currently in the design phase. Construction of the Southwest section is anticipated to begin in mid-2011
