All candidates in the upcoming primary election have been invited to attend and participate. There will be a Q & A session with the public. This will serve as an opportunity for you to meet, speak and query those on the slate. You can submit your questions in advance (advisable). There will be a limited open mic during the Q & A. We encourage individuals, community groups, businesses and organizations to attend this important event. The offices on the slate are:  US House & Senate, NC House & Senate, District Attorney, Board of Commissioners, Clerk of Superior Court, Sheriff, Supreme Court Chief Justice, Supreme Court Associate Justice, and Court of Appeals & District Court Judge.

En Plein Air Paint-off

Spring into the Arts

Fuquay-Varina -“Spring for the Arts” is coming to downtown Fuquay-Varina on Friday, April 11th from 5-9pm. Local artists, organizations, and businesses will join together to provide a variety of creative, family friendly events and activities to showcase the arts. Events will include an artist and crafter’s market, kids’ creative activities, live local music, the Fuquay-Varina Downtown Associations Award Winning “ En-Plein Air Paint Off, an all new Kid’s En Plein Air Paint off, a glow in the dark dance party, student performances, museum tours, Rickshaw Rides, Open Mic, artist receptions, and more. The events will take place at a variety of locations throughout the downtown area, with the hub of the event on Raleigh St. between Main and S. Fuquay Avenue. Admission is free.

This very special event, organized by the Fuquay-Varina Arts Council, will kick-off the 2014 season of their 2nd Fridays “Art after Dark” Art Walk.  Visit www.FVartscouncil.org for more information and a full schedule of events.
Holly Springs Community Band Spring Concert

Easter Egg Hunt

The Easter Bunny hops into town a week early on Saturday, April 12 bringing thousands of candy and toy filled eggs to South Park in Fuquay-Varina for the Town’s annual Easter Egg Hunt.  Grab a basket or bag and plan to bring the kids for what has become a wonderful Fuquay-Varina tradition.  This free event begins at 10:00 am.

Children ages 10 and under are invited to participate.  The Fuquay-Varina Easter Egg Hunt features three hunt areas on the lower ball fields, each for a different age group.

Candy Hop

This is a free, family event held following the Town of Fuquay-Varina’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt.  The Candy Hop is much like the traditional Trick or Treat in Downtown. Teen Day Fuquay

Teen Day Fuquay, an alcohol and distracted driving awareness program, offers young people the opportunity to experience the realities of mixing alcohol and texting with driving in a controlled situation and see the impact of drunk driving on real families by watching a simulated rescue.  The goal is for pre-teens and teens to gain hands-on experience and learn the facts on May 10 that will help them make wiser choices about driving and keep their lives full of endless possibilities.  

Over the past three years, the program has garnered rave reviews from parents, educators and students.  Every year, the event gets bigger!  In 2013, more than 1000 teens attended Teen Day Fuquay!  The event is free!  Pizza will be served at 1 pm.  Lots of prizes!  The first 300 teens to complete the Drive Wise Course will received a free t-shirt!  www.teendayfuquay.com

Teen Intern Program Offered This Summer at Town Hall

The Town of Fuquay-Varina is offering a three-week summer civic internship program to rising junior and senior high school students to expand their knowledge of local government and gain hands-on experience by working directly with a variety of Town departments.   Selected individuals will work from 8 am – 1 pm daily during the program which runs from June 16-July 3.  Interns will also attend a Town meeting on Tuesday, June 17 at 7 pm.  The internships are unpaid.
The students will work with a variety of Town department to gain leadership skills while learning how government affects our daily lives and the impact citizens have in government.  Interns will gain work experience, a greater understanding of how they can become involved in local government and the multitude of career opportunities available within municipal government.

Teen Photo Contest

Photos must be submitted by May 9 at 5 pm
The Town is hosting a photo contest for digital/electronic, high resolution photos that celebrate life in Fuquay-Varina from the perspective of a teen.  The Fuquay-Varina High School photography club and digital media classes are participating, but the contest is open to all Fuquay-Varina High School students and home schooled high school students living in Fuquay-Varina.

Images must be taken in Fuquay-Varina and may show anything locally from natural beauty, history, landscapes, wildlife, events, community, downtown, celebrations, facilities, parks & recreation, businesses, architecture or people living, working, shopping or playing in Town.  
There are awards and prizes and the winners will be featured at the Celebrate Fuquay-Varina festival.  Download an application.

Operation Coming Home

Are you interested in helping with the next Operation Coming Home project?  This home is being built for a disabled veteran and his family to live right here in Fuquay-Varina!  The house will be handed over in April, so there is lots of work to be done!   Major sponsors of the project include the Raleigh-Wake County Home Builders Association, Preston Development Company, M/I Homes, United States Veterans Corp., and South Lakes.  The Town of Fuquay-Varina has waived all permit fees.
