CAMPO and Wake County, in cooperation with the Research Triangle Regional Public Transportation Authority (also known as GoTriangle), is considering adopting a recommended transit plan for Wake County. Residents are invited to review and comment on the Recommended Wake County Transit Plan at one of several public information sessions. A local meeting will be held on May 2 from 4 - 7 pm at the Southern Regional Center.

National Day of Prayer
Thursday, May 5, 12 noon – 1 pm
Town Hall, 401 Old Honeycutt Road, Fuquay-Varina, NC  
A community National Day of Prayer observance will be held at the Fuquay-Varina Town Hall flagpole (401 Old Honeycutt Road).  Mayor John Byrne will bring a city Proclamation designating May 5th as “A Day of Prayer in Fuquay-Varina.” All are encouraged to come and join together in this time of prayer for our nation and our community.  Organizers will be collecting diapers/baby wipes and canned/dryed goods to help those in need in the community.  For more information, please contact Regina Kinton at 919-810-3595.

Fresh food from right here in Fuquay-Varina.  Find it at the Growers Market from May 7th through October every Saturday (8 am - 12 pm) and Wednesday (10 am - 1 pm).  On opening day, join us for Chef Joseph's Pig Pickin' and a strawberry lemonade food demo.  Music provided by Fuquay-Varina Elementary School Ensemble.

The public is invited to come at any time during these drop-in style workshops and receive and provide information regarding the LDO.  Input will be used to revise the Draft LDO as appropriate.  Other meeting dates:  June 2 and June 23.

Would you like to meet others who have a shared interest in the Arts, get involved, share your ideas, volunteer, or become a member?  Please join us on the final Wednesday of every month at 7:30pm for our Arts Council meeting at 123 E. Vance St., Fuquay-Varina.  You do not have to be an Arts Council member to attend. All are welcome to join us.  You are always invited to bring a sample of your artwork, music, writing, etc., and/or some tasty snacks or beverages to share with others.
 
WRAL Freedom Balloon Fest
May 27-30, times vary
Fleming Loop Park, Fuquay-Varina, NC
The WRAL Freedom Balloon Fest, scheduled over Memorial Day, will be the largest event to ever hit Fuquay-Varina.  An estimated 60,000-80,000 people will attend the four-day event that will feature more than 30 balloon pilots from around the nation.  Hot air balloons will only fly in the morning and late afternoon/early evenings but there will be plenty to see and do.  The festival will feature competitive balloon flights, tethered balloon rides, evening glows and a myriad of activities planned from sunrise to sundown.   Expect a great weekend with lots of activity, entertainment and food.
 
The bulk of the activity will be at Fleming Loop Park just off Hwy. 42 west of town. Admission to the event is free but there will be no public parking at the event site.  Organizers have arranged for 30 acres of offsite parking and festival goers will need to take a shuttle to the event.  Expect a nominal fee associated with parking and the shuttle. The WRAL Balloon Fest is dedicated to veterans and military families and funds raised will support local military veterans’ organizations.

Summer Camp Registration 

The Town will host weekly-themed, camps beginning June 20th for children who have completed K-5.  The cost is $100 per week for residents and $125 per week for non-residents.  Registration begins April 1.  Find information about camp at www.fvparks.org/summercamp. 
 
Habitat for Humanity Build-a-thon
The week of May23-27, Habitat for Humanity will build a total of five homes in Fuquay-Varina. Over 100 current AmeriCorps volunteers and 25 AmeriCorps alumni will travel to Fuquay-Varina from all over the country to accomplish this task. Four qualified families have been identified for those four homes, and will help build them as well.  Find out how to volunteer.
