Spring will be busy in Fuquay-Varina!

National Day of Prayer

All are invited to join this community prayer event at City Hall as various members of our community pray for families/youth, schools, media, churches, government (all levels), and our Military, Fire and Police. A special message will be brought by Christy Christopher, National Prayer Coordinator for Just Joy Ministries. Bring a lawn chair.

Movies Under the Stars

Downtown will be showing a kid-friendly movie about a video-game villain who longs to be a hero and tries to earn a medal to prove he’s not the bad guy everyone thinks he is will entice both young guests and the young-at-heart; some of whom may even remember the outdoor movies of the past. Admission is $1.00 per person. Children under 2 are Free.  Everyone receives a glow-in-the-dark bracelet as their entry token. The event will run from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. and the feature film will begin at dusk (approximately 8 p.m.).  Preshow entertainment begins at 7 pm.  Feature film at 8 pm.  Entry fee:  $1.00.  Kids under 2 are free.  www.fuquay-varinadowntown.com

Teen Day Fuquay

At Teen Day, teenagers will have the chance to test their skills at the Drive Wise Course, filled with high tech and low tech activities designed to drive home the realities of mixing driving with alcohol or texting.   In too many cases, this experience comes in the real world with horrible consequences.  The first 300 teens to complete the Drive Wise Course will get a free Teen Day t-shirt, which has proven a hot commodity!  The Fuquay-Varina Fire Department will present an all new crash scenario that promises to be an eye opener for teens.  For teens 11-18.  Parents are welcome.  Event is free!  Learn more at www.teendayfuquay.com.  Face Book:  Teen Day Fuquay.

Walk with Wake Med

Join WakeMed, Mix 101.5 and the Town of Fuquay-Varina for family-friendly community walks in the Triangle’s most beautiful parks.  There will be several walks across the Triangle but we’re lucky to have one right here in Fuquay-Varina on Sunday, May 5 at South Park led by the physicians from Wake Specialty Physicians – Fuquay-Varina Primary Care.  Bring your family and friends!  The walk begins at 2 pm.  South Park is located at 820 S. Main Street in Fuquay-Varina.  There will be health information, music, activities for the kids, and an appearance by Twinkle, the Children’s Hospital mascot.  

Historic Homes Tour

Sunday, May 5, 1 pm – 4 pm
Ten historic homes will be open to the public as a fund raising project of the Fuquay Springs Questers and the Friends of the Museums.  All ticket proceeds will be designated to purchase bronze markers for these and other homes.  Eventually all homes which can be considered historic will be provided with markers.  Donations are welcome.  

Tickets go on sale April 4.  Advance tickets can be purchased for $10 at David Anthony’s Gifts, Ashworth’s Clothing, the Museums and Quester member. Day of Tour tickets will be sold at the Mineral Spring beginning at 12:30 p.m. At each site, visitors will meet current owners. In many homes, members of original families will share memories.  Refreshments will be served.  Email for more information.

Box Lunch Fundraiser

Art After Dark

Join us on Friday, May 10th from 5-9pm to walk the Art after Dark "Art Walk" throughout downtown Fuquay-Varina.  This month, the event will include an artist and crafter’s market, live local music, an En Plein Air Artist Reception, a drum circle, jewelry wrapping, Museum Tours, and plenty of local artwork on display.  If you would like to join others for the “Art Walk," meet at the Arts Council tent at the Artist Market at 600 Broad St. (next to Aviator Tap House) at 5:30pm (or arrive early so you will have plenty of time to view all of the great artwork showcased at the Artist Market). From there, a group will walk and ride (via Rickshaws!) together to visit a variety of locations featured on this month's walk.  The walk will end up back on the Varina side of town, where walkers will have the option of continuing their night by enjoying two live musical performances at the Aviator Tap House and Brick Bar and Grill. Run the Quay 5 k

The Annual “Run the Quay” 5K race on June 2th through scenic downtown Fuquay-Varina attracts competitive and casual runners, walkers and families with an emphasis on community involvement.
Last year, the event drew over 650 participants with large crowds lining the route. This is a premier event for the Chamber of Commerce, with a large turnout of volunteers and athletes enjoying the downtown flavor of historic Fuquay-Varina.

New Exhibit Coming to the Museums!  Virtual Tours: 360 Degree Photography
One of the advantages of being from a small hometown was realized when Woody Howard presented an opportunity to the Friends of the Museums Board of Directors. Educate Via360, Inc. organizes imagery in 360 degree photography.  Board members gave enthusiastic endorsement to this interactive project.  Fuquay-Varina Museums will join a distinguished company of museums and historic sites in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia available to school programs who elect to provide these virtual tours for their students.  Watch for this link on fuquay-varina-museums.org later this spring.
