We are excited to announce that we are offering our second session of the Fuquay-Varina Police Department's Citizen's Police Academy! The goal of the CPA is to enhance the relationship between the police department and the community, resulting in a better understanding of what the community can expect from the officers and employees who serve them and the services they provide in the Town of Fuquay-Varina.

The first session starts on January 17, 2019 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Fuquay-Varina Police Department. The course is a 10-week program that offers citizens a unique view of how police officers perform their duties and serve their community. The course involves meeting once a week on Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Instructors are employees of the Fuquay-Varina Police Department. Graduation will occur on March 28, 2019.

Topics discussed during the program include but are not limited to: Mission/Structure, Recruiting, Training, 21st Century Policing, Community Policing, Facility Tour, Motor Vehicle Law, Traffic Enforcement, Laws of Arrest, Search and Seizure, Domestic Violence/Child Crimes, Traffic Stops, DWI Detection, Use of Force, Professional Standards, School Resource Officer, Firearms Safety, Criminal Investigations, Fraud Investigations, Crime Prevention, Communications Center, and a K-9 Presentation. The final week includes a graduation and recognition program.

Requirements of the program:

* Must be at least 18 years of age

* A criminal history check and background investigation will be conducted

* No felony convictions

* Complete an application - incomplete applications will be rejected

* Must complete the program in its entirety for graduation

* Town residents receive first priority

* Limited seating available

Note: This is not a "Citizen's On Patrol" program. The CPA program is designed to educate the public about the role of law enforcement and to learn about your police department in the Town of Fuquay-Varina.
